NYC Marathon
This morning was the annual ING NYC Marathon. Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya was the top male finisher with an astonishing 2:05:05. That averages out to about 5min 39sec per mile. My fastest time ever was 7min 15sec per mile for 2 miles. Fastest pace ever was at 6min 45sec. Now imagine doing this for 26.2 miles. That is just insane.
I’m always glued to these events because it always amazes me what these people put their body through and I can’t help but to feel their joy and excitement when they cross that finish line. Then there’s that other side of me. I’m a runner and I love running but for the past few years, I’ve had to bow out of two half marathons due to my right knee injury. Most recently was this past LA Rock n Roll Half that I was training for. It was going well until about 2 weeks before the race I reaggravated that same knee and had to make a painful decision to opt out of the race. Luckily my buddy ran it for me. Now it’s more rest and recovery before I start back rehabbing and training again. Worst case scenario, I might just have to take the plunge and have arthroscopic knee surgery to hopefully fix this once and for all.
